Off Air: Farewell to Jared

Jared Stillman came to us with a style all his own – sauntering down the stairs to the studio with the unmistakable click of his cowboy boots, and a running commentary on the last 15 minutes of his life – regardless of who, if anyone, he might find in the room to participate in his conversation.

With his slight, but present “twang,” he managed to captivate the attention of those in the room even while talking of inane subjects like the annual salary of Jared from “Subway” fame, or the perils of perspiring around pretty girls at the gym.

Jared is now off to Louisville, to embark on a sports talk career there, and although only here a few months, he has left an indelible imprint on all of us. Such as…when he’d ask Janice to pretend to be his secretary on the phone so it would appear he had “people.” Janice, of course, would staunchly refuse and roll her eyes, but retained an amused smirk in the process.

Jared would “entertain” Chris (who was usually working to edit material at the time) with opinion and speculation on other media personalities, eliciting a bellow and complaint from Chris (not an impossible feat,) but inevitably both erupted in laughter.

Jared made a habit of peppering AJ with text requests and comments – some of which actually had something to do with IT, and while Jared seemed to delight in instigating battle with me over news updates and philosophies, he was also the first to rush to my defense when others were firing in my direction.

For all his antics, Jared also has the ability to carry the conversation on demand – on or off the air – and has no problem laughing at himself. He is in general “a good sport,” and much like a promising but mischievous child, has the ability to make you chuckle and shake your head, all while marveling at his talent. Jared, thanks for fun memories. We’ll miss ya.
