City Council Meeting of September 9, 2013

• Item: State Homeland Security Program and Law Enforcement Terrorism Prevention Program – Purchase of a specialized response/rescue vehicle:

The City Council conducted a public hearing on August 12, 2013 and took public input on the resolution to accept and appropriate $258,024 in unmatched grant funds for the acquisition of a BearCat Rescue Vehicle. At the September 9th meeting the City Council will deliberate and potentially make a decision as whether to accept or reject the grant funds.

• Item: June Preliminary Fiscal Year to Date 2013 Financial Statements:

Overview: The preliminary FY 2013 year end results for the General Fund reports a surplus of $930,300. After consideration of the use of $894,000 fund balance/surplus from prior years. Recommendations on the use of surplus will be reviewed by the City Council later in the fall.

Of note, the Golf Fund had an expected budgeted loss of $20,700; however, there was an actual preliminary gain of $23,900.

Sewalls Falls Bridge

• The City is working with the Federal Highway Administration regarding a “determination of effects” memo. Progress continues to be made with both federal and state agencies. Upon agreement of all agencies the City will be able enter into a contract for design. We expect the necessary steps to take place over the next two weeks.
