NH Senator Lou D’Allesandro on NH Now

Senator Lou D’Allesandro called on national, state and community leaders to come up with solutions to limit gun violence in schools, and neighborhoods on NH Now today.

This in light of the Newtown tragedy, the killing of Greenland police chief Michael Maloney, the shooting of Manchester police officer Daniel Doherty, and other acts of violence in his district.

“Why are we such a violent society? Why are we killing kids every day?”, said D’Allesandro.

Host Chris Ryan continues to examine how the country needs to respond to the Newtown Tragedy at a national, state and local level.

His guests are State Senator Lou D’Allesandro and Concord Monitor reporter Ben Leubsdorf.

“As a country we’ve got to get it together,” said Sen. D’Allesandro. “As a nation and as individuals we cannot let (events like this happen). I pledge to myself to make sure that (a comprehensive state conversation about this) happens.”

Concord Police Chief John Duval, Concord School Board President Kass Ardinger and Concord School District Facilities Director Matt Cashman join Chris Ryan to discuss the impact of the Newtown, CT tragedy on New Hampshire.

“The whole debate about guns, our leaders of the country and communities will have,” said Duval. “But, violence is violence. If it’s not guns, it’s something else. The conversation should be about the greater issue surrounding this. That issue is why are these people harming our children?”

The three pushed back on the notion that armed police personnel should be in all Concord schools, and believe there is a need for greater communication to try to prevent incidents like this.
