About The Host
Masheri Chappelle is a lover of great stories. A Harlem and South Bronx native, she grew up in a vibrant community filled with music, fire hydrants to cool the summer heat, and a multicultural blend of Hispanic, Caribbean, and African American cultures. As an undergraduate at Smith College, she majored in theater and creative writing. During her junior and senior years, she wrote plays as part of her independent Smith Scholar curriculum, earning the Denis Johnston Playwriting Award multiple times.
Her play Don’t Cry Cuz the Sun Don’t Shine, with a musical score composed by the late jazz pianist and musician Clyde Criner, was performed at Smith College’s Halle Flanagan Theater. At just 20 years old, her play Prisms: A Spectrum of Men’s Minds was performed at the UMass (Amherst, MA) Third World Theater Series.
In 1995, she began writing her first novel, The Descendant, inspired by true events in her life and the lives of her family. Years later, The Oracle Files: Escape, the winner of the 2019 NH Literary Award for Outstanding Work of Fiction, confirmed her passion for storytelling. As the New Hampshire Writers’ Project Board Chair, her dedication to crafting dimensional stories and helping others with their literary projects opened the door to a new use of her intuitive abilities as a medium and psychic.
In 2020, she began working as a professional Story Guide, using her intuitive gifts to help curate, deepen, and dimensionalize spiritual, psychic, esoteric, and metahuman stories. In 2024, she officially launched her indie publishing company, PortalStar Publishing, with six authors. Its mission is simple: to provide a safe and nurturing environment for developing stories that enlighten and serve the soul.
“It is a privilege and blessing to be in the presence of creative people and have thought-provoking conversations about writing and being a writer. In these challenging times, it is wonderful to offer programming that stimulates and inspires. I’m a very lucky woman.”
