NH Now: GOP Presidential Candidate, Carly Fiorina, Answers Remarks by Donald Trump

th

Former Hewlett Packard CEO, Carly Fiorina joined Chris Ryan to discuss the underlying economic conditions of the unrest in Baltimore. She is prepared to announce her bid for the Presidency on Monday. Fiorina, the only woman in the prospective Republican field, also fired back at Donald Trump, the other Republican candidate who is coming from the private sector. Trump sniped about her being fired by Hewlett-Packard and losing her bid for the US Senate from California. Fiorina defended her six year record as CEO of the computer and technology giant. She pointed to raising sales from $45 to $90 billion, an improved growth rate from 2%-9%, and a tremendous increase in their numbers of patents. Fiorina claims that HP went from lagging to leading in its industry. In the process, she stepped on some peoples’ toes, lost a one week boardroom brawl, and was voted out. She believes that her overall experience in business which began as working as a secretary in a small real estate office has helped her to understand how the economy and bureaucracy works. As for her losing to incumbent Senator Barbara Boxer, Carly Fiorina feels that losing 52% to 42% in a deep blue state like California is no disgrace. She ended by stating that some people are wrong if they think that politics is a game or just a profession. Politics impacts peoples’ lives. She feels that our country is facing serious problems, and we need serious solutions–not sound bites and vitriol. Fiorina stated that instead of just talking–maybe Donald Trump should run.

Carly Fiorina believes that our country is at pivotal point. The American people need to feel that their lives are full of possibilities. Instead, in America today, too many people have turned to drugs or rioting because they feel helpless and hopeless. As an aside, she shared that her daughter died as the result of a drug overdose. She attributes our societal problems to many people being caught in various webs of dependency. She claims that we have an economy where more businesses are being destroyed than created, and government continues to grow bigger and less accountable.

Fiorina believes that the government needs to prioritize its spending. She would employ a zero base budgeting program, so that we will at least have an idea where we are spending the tax money. In addition, it is necessary for the government to get serious about eliminating the hundreds of billions of dollars that are squandered due to fraud, waste, abuse, and corruption. When asked about what governments, federal and local, can do to get corporations to invest in America and not take their jobs overseas, Fiorina gave a simple solution. The United States, state governments, and cities like Baltimore need to make themselves attractive to business lowering corporate taxes and regulatory burdens.
