Speaker invites candidates to armed House

New Hampshire House Speaker Shawn Jasper has invited all major presidential candidates to speak to the legislative body ahead of the primary on Feb. 9, but he tells the Secret Service that House members will not be leaving their guns behind.
While only three presidential hopefuls have Secret Service protection details, Jasper’s office has preemptively told the federal agency that if those candidates do visit, the House doesn’t plan to suspend its rule allowing members to carry concealed guns on the floor, which violates Secret Service security protocols.
So far, none of the candidates with Secret Service protection – Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republicans Ben Carson and Donald Trump – have scheduled visits to the Chamber. A spokesman for the Clinton campaign said it is unlikely she will visit the House because of her schedule.
